The more I sew the more I come to realize that professional results is dependent on three tiers of expertise. The first is understanding the fabric. We actually have to be well skilled in the management and guiding of the fabric so that it gets sewn where we want to sew. The second tier is understanding the machine we are working on. Each machine has subtle idiosyncrasies that we need to know, feel or understand in order to achieve optimum results. Third, we must understand how to construct the garment. what is the process… how do we make perfect seam allowances, how do we gather etc…
Each tier is equally important. It is in the development of all tiers that you can create professional looking garments
