Summer isn’t that far away. Here’s a super-easy tote bag tutorial that you can make so you’re ready to hit the beach.
Things you’ll need:
- 2 pieces of fabric for the bag. Fabric quarters work well here. They’re easy to get and come in some great colors and patterns. Best of all, they’re close to the size that you’ll need.
- Fabric for the straps.
- Sewing machine (optional)
Step 1:
Cut two pieces of your bag fabric 15″ x 12″.
Step 2:
Turn the fabric over to the back (ugly side). On one of the 12″ (short) sides, fold down 1/2″. Then fold again 1″, pin and sew. This will be the top of the bag. Do this for both pieces.
Step 3:
Cut two pieces of your strap fabric 2.5″ wide by 38″
Step 4:
Fold the strap in half lengthwise and sew along the edge.
Step 5:
On the front (pretty side) of the bag fabric, pin one of the narrow edge of the strap fabric to the bottom of the bag piece approximately 4″ in from the edge. Continue pinning the strap to the bag making a u-turn at the top and coming back down the other side. Then sew both sides of the strap to the bag fabric. Do this for both pieces.
Step 6:
Place two bag pieces together (pretty sides in) with the straps tucked into the pouch. Pin along left, bottom and right sides leaving the top open. Sew along edges.
Step 7:
Turn bag right side out-you’re now ready to hit the beach with your new bag.
